Upon diagnosis, Dr. Anand Raja examined CT/MRI scans, confirming the presence of Chondroblastoma in the right distal humerus. Chondroblastoma is a rare noncancerous bone tumor often found near the ends of long bones, particularly near the growth plate. The tumor was resected through a limb salvage surgery approach. During this procedure, the humerus bone underwent significant size reduction, shrinking from 230mm to 170mm. To prevent further size reduction and maintain bone integrity, bone cement was employed with PMMA spacer.
Customized Implant Design: The implant design phase consisted of three key components: the Humerus Rod, Elbow joint, and Ulna. To reduce implant weight and encourage osseointegration, a lattice structure was incorporated into the Humerus implant. Additionally, the Humerus Rod was strategically placed in the middle of the implant to allow for screw fixation at the acromion bone. The lattice structure was chosen for its potential to accelerate osseointegration, and a hinge-type structure was added to the anterior side of the Humerus to prevent complete rotation. To avoid metal to metal contact & for frictionless movement we provided UHMWPE component in between those metal parts. A male-female locking mechanism was also introduced for added stability.Effective collaboration between Dr. Anand and the Incredible design team played a crucial role in achieving success. 90% of the design concepts and solutions were generated by team incredible.
