Background
A young unmarried girl of 18 years came with a tumor over her right cheek bone grossly distorting her face. She had earlier undergone two surgeries for the same.
This time, the tumor was destroying the entire right side upper jaw bone and projecting inside the nose of the patient.
Dr. Siddharth Shah & team, a leading Head and Neck Cancer Surgeon, went through clinical observation and decided that a patient-specific implant can help in getting a symmetrical face.

Solution
The case of the young girl was carried out by Dr. Siddhart Shah, Dr. Shruti Soni & Dr. Pratik Shah. After studying the patient’s CT scan images, the patient required removal of entire maxilla including alveolar process, orbital floor with hemi palate and zygomatic process.
The main concern was reconstruction and rehabilitation to maintain the facial contour and giving a set of teeth which can be aesthetically and functionally useful. The use of free fibular flap with dental implant was coming out to be very expensive option. It was hence decided to go for patient specific maxillary implant involving lower orbit, zygoma and maxillary ridge. Read more
